Pastel Colors

When you have predominantly pastel colors........ the mood is soft, tranquil and inviting.

Defining Pastel Colors

Colors with a lot of white added are termed pastel. To be accurate, you must be able to give the colouring of your room a name beginning with ‘pale’ or ‘light’, for example pale pink, light blue, pale green, pale lemon, pale lilac, pale mauve, light apricot, light peach, pale aqua or white with pastel accessories.  If there is no definite colour, you have a neutral.

If you have created a pastel mood in your home, you are probably someone who is friendly, sensitive, gentle and caring. You do not like confrontation and drama in your life so you do not decorate your home in bold or dramatic colors.

What this means in your life will depend on which room you are in. If pastel colors are throughout your whole home, you will be open and sociable, placid and considerate, in all areas of your life.

Pastel Colors in Your Bedroom, Bathroom or Living Room

A bedroom with lots of pastel colours in walls and floor coverings as well as accessories, or, white walls with neutral floors but lots of pastels in bed covers, sheets, lamps and the pictures on the wall, is most alluring and inviting.  It suggests romance, love and fantasy more than any other colour scheme.

If you have chosen pastels for your bedroom, you are romantic, loving and sensitive and looking for nurturing and love in your intimate life. You will be friendly and non-threatening in your intimate experiences and will want to receive exactly what you have portrayed in your bedroom: to be treated gently, thoughtfully and with sensitivity by your partner.

If you have chosen pastels for your living areas, you have a quiet, soft, considerate and nurturing personality, one who loves to have guests to socialize with and to fuss over. You won’t be the ‘life of the party’ type, more the thoughtful, caring and encouraging type.

If the pastels are in your bathroom, you may be quite emotional at times as you tend to be open with your feelings, wearing your heart on your sleeve.

Pink and peach are the most romantic pastels because they send the subconscious messages of love and communication. However, not everyone who loves pastels will want pink or peach in their bedroom; some may prefer the sense of serenity created by pale blue, while other pastel lovers may prefer the tranquillity of light green.

The general feeling with pastels is one of openness, softness, calmness and composure.

Changing Your Pastel Mood

When you want communication in your relationships to be more open, choose pastels.  They are full of light and more free-flowing than the controlling elements of dark colours.

Want more romance as well?  Choose pastels. The softness of their colouring makes them non-confronting - and very seductive.

In contrast, some people, however, feel that the use of predominantly pastel colours creates an insipid, superficial atmosphere.  There is no way they want a soft or romantic light look. Their choice may be medium or bright colors.

Key Words: light, open, soft, inviting, romantic, tranquil and composed.
